When using the Speed/Cadence Sensor (GSC 10) with a Garmin fitness device, it is possible to lose connection and experience problems trying to pair the accessory. If a Garmin fitness device is unable to pair with the GSC 10, consider the following:

  • Activate Speed/Cadence sensor option within menu of device. (See owner's manual for your device)
  • Restart scan for Speed/Cadence Sensor Change battery in device (see GSC 10 Instructions for additional details)
  • Update fitness device software Ensure GSC 10 wheel and crank magnets are aligned properly (See GSC 10 Instructions)
  • Press reset (white button) on GSC 10 and watch for a red and green flash.
  • If appropriate light does not flash as the wheel or crank magnet passes (Red for crank, green for speed) then magnet will need to be moved closer to sensor. (Will only flash for about 10 seconds after pressing the button).

Below are some troubleshooting options to take if the heart rate monitor (HRM) will not establish a connection to your device. The HRM is to be worn with the logo right-side up, directly on the skin just beneath the breastbone. Position the monitor on your back if heart rate readings are erratic. Moisture from water or electrolyte gel is necessary to establish an electrical connection between your body and the HRM. It may be necessary to rescan for the HRM. The owner's manual will provide step-by-step instructions. Electrical interference, such as computer monitors and high-voltage electrical lines, may produce pairing issues. AM/FM Tuner or an MP3 Player may need to be worn on the opposite arm of the Forerunner. Replace the CR2032 battery in the HRM. Wait at least 30-60 seconds after the old battery is removed before installing the new battery. Properly clean the heart rate monitor. Refer to the HRMcare document. These steps should help ensure your heart rate monitor is properly paired to your device. In addition, ensure your device is running the most update software.

Since terms like waterproof and water-resistant can be confusing and interpreted in different ways, Garmin has manufactured devices with standardized water ratings. A description of these ratings as well as suitable and unsuitable activities for these devices can be found here.
