FAQs

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a technology that allows you to transfer information between your phone and other devices just by touching them together. Like Bluetooth, it's a standard system that works across devices from different manufacturers and it makes it more convenient to make transactions, exchange digital content and connect devices. You can transfer information between your phone and other phones and mobile devices, payment devices and home audio and video devices. For example, you can share web addresses, contacts, phone numbers, music tracks, videos or photos. NFC tags are small programmed information areas that can be embedded on posters, billboard advertisements or next to products in retail stores. Touching a tag gives you additional information such as maps, web addresses and movie trailers. NFC is activated by bringing two NFC-compatible devices together. The maximum reading distance is about one centimetre, which helps prevent unauthorised communications.

Bring the speaker and the BLUETOOTH device to within 1 m (3 ft) of each other. If the (BLUETOOTH) indicator is not flashing quickly in white, press and hold the (power) PAIRING button until you hear a beep and the (BLUETOOTH) indicator begins to flash quickly in white. Charge the battery of the speaker sufficiently or connect the speaker to a computer/AC outlet. To use the speaker add function, pair with the speaker where the (BLUETOOTH) indicator flashes in white. Once the speaker is initialized, an iPhone/iPad/iPod may not be able to connect to the speaker. In this case, delete pairing information on the iPhone/iPad/iPod then pair them again.

If using an AC power adapter, ensure the adapter is securely connected and plugged into a working AC outlet. NOTE: Not all players and recorders are provided with an AC power adapter. Make sure the USB cable is plugged into the player and the computer securely. Unplug the cable from both ends and plug it back in. This step is not applicable to older models that do not charge via USB. Try plugging the unit into a separate AC outlet to make sure there is not a problem with the current AC outlet. If your computer has more than one USB port, try plugging the USB adapter into a different USB port to make sure there is not a problem with the current USB port. Some older models have a built-in battery switch. If your unit has this switch, verify that it is in the ON position. Some older models have replaceable batteries. For these models, replace the batteries. NOTE: For applicable models, when the recorder has not been used for a long time, the CHARGE lamp may not light up immediately after you place the recorder on the USB cradle. If this happens, leave the recorder on the cradle for a few minutes, and then take the recorder off and reseat it on the cradle. If you charge the player when it has not been used for a long period, your computer may not recognize the player or nothing may appear on the display. Charge the player for about 5 minutes, and it should operate properly. Charge the battery in an ambient temperature of between 5 ºC to 35 ºC (41 ºF to 95 ºF). If you try to charge the battery in an ambient temperature outside this range, the battery indicator may blink, and charging cannot be performed. The number of times the battery can be recharged before it is used up is approximately 500 times. This number may vary, depending on the conditions under which you use the player. The battery indicator on the display is only an estimate. For example, one section of black in the indicator will not always indicate exactly one-fourth of the battery’s charge. [Do not disconnect.] appears in the display while the computer accesses the player. Do not disconnect the supplied USB cable while [Do not disconnect.] appears or data being transferred may be damaged. If you do not intend to use the player for over half a year, charge the battery at least once during this time to maintain battery performance. Some USB devices connected to the computer may interfere with proper operation of the player. We do not guarantee battery recharging using a personally assembled/modified computer. If the computer enters a power saving mode, such as the Sleep or Hibernation mode, while the player is connected via the USB cable, the player’s battery will not be charged. Instead, the player continues to draw power from the battery, discharging it. Do not leave the player connected for extended periods to a laptop computer that is not connected to AC power, since the player may discharge the computer’s battery. While the player is connected to a computer, do not turn on, restart, wake up from sleep mode, or shut down the computer. These operations may cause the player to malfunction. Disconnect the player from the computer before performing these operations.

The One-touch function by Sony incorporates Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. By using Sony devices with the One-touch function, users can easily and instantly register and pair their Bluetooth devices to play music and more without the need for any set-up. The One-touch function is a reference to this instant connection between devices, and the One-touch listening is a reference to the music playback feature made possible across an array of one-touch enabled devices.

One-touch listening: With One-touch listening, you just have to touch your smartphone or tablet for a couple of seconds on the listening device through which you want to play music, or stream other audio content. Listening devices can, for example, be wireless speakers or wireless headphones. The devices connect automatically. One-touch listening uses NFC and Bluetooth to connect and stream music, so your smartphone, tablet and the listening device (speakers or headphones, etc.) must support NFC and Bluetooth. With one-touch listening, you can listen to content from, for example, the WALKMAN player, the YouTube app, Internet-radio apps such as TuneIn Radio, or audio book apps.

  • If the speaker cannot be turned on, or if it cannot be operated even when it is turned on, push the RESET button with a pointed object such as a pin.
  • The speaker is reset and turns off.
  • After pushing the RESET button, turn on the speaker. If it does not turn on, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
  • Pairing information is not deleted by pushing the RESET button.
  • To reset the speaker while it is being powered by the built-in battery, push and hold the RESET button until the (BLUETOOTH) indicator turns off.
  • After resetting, the volume, function, and sound settings may be different.

If you have multiple Near Field Communication (NFC) compatible devices, just touch the smartphone or tablet to a different device to switch the connection to that device. For example, when your smartphone or tablet is connected with NFC compatible headphones, just touch the smartphone or tablet to another device, such as an NFC compatible speaker, to switch the Bluetooth connection.
