FAQs

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a technology that allows you to transfer information between your phone and other devices just by touching them together. Like Bluetooth, it's a standard system that works across devices from different manufacturers and it makes it more convenient to make transactions, exchange digital content and connect devices. You can transfer information between your phone and other phones and mobile devices, payment devices and home audio and video devices. For example, you can share web addresses, contacts, phone numbers, music tracks, videos or photos. NFC tags are small programmed information areas that can be embedded on posters, billboard advertisements or next to products in retail stores. Touching a tag gives you additional information such as maps, web addresses and movie trailers. NFC is activated by bringing two NFC-compatible devices together. The maximum reading distance is about one centimetre, which helps prevent unauthorised communications.

NFC compatible smartphones are smartphones with built-in Near Field Communication (NFC) function. These smartphones have Android 2.3.3 operating system or newer. Look for the NFC logo on a smartphone or mobile device to ensure that it is NFC compatible.

NOTES: Currently Apple iPhone mobile device and other Apple iOS devices do not support the NFC feature. NFC function is not compatible on smartphones with Android 3. x operating system. To use the NFC function, the NFC Easy Connect application needs to be downloaded and installed on the smartphone. This application can be downloaded from the Google Play store.

NOTE: Some smartphones with the Android 4.0 operating system may already have an app installed that has similar functions. Refer to the manual supplied with the smartphone for additional details.

  • Depending on the smartphone, it may not be possible to make one-touch connection while the smartphone is being charged.
  • Finish charging first, then try again If the smartphone is in a case, the listening device may not react to one-touch.
  • Remove the smartphone from the case first
  • Depending on the smartphone, the NFC sensitivity may not be strong enough to connect the device with just one touch.
  • Keep touching the listening device with smartphone until smartphone vibrates
  • Depending on the smartphone, it may be necessary to install an app on your smartphone to enable one-touch connection.
  • Download the app “NFC Easy Connect” from Google Play, and install it. (“NFC Easy Connect” may not be available in some countries and/or regions)
  • Listening device side
  • Depending on the listening device, it may not be possible to make one-touch connection if the listening device is being charged and cannot be turned on.
  • Finish charging first, then make one-touch connection If the listening device has an NFC switch, set it to ON.
  • Refer to the operating instructions of the listening device for details
  • One-touch connection is not possible when the listening device is already connected to another NFC compatible device. In this case, disconnect the other device, and make the connection with the smartphone again. If the pairing by the one-touch setup fails, also make sure of the following.
  • After touching the smartphone to the listening device, please complete the connection according to the instructions of the smartphone screen.
  • Confirm the Bluetooth setting of the smartphone.

Follow these steps to connect a portable audio player to a stereo system.

IMPORTANT: Some products may not have a jack to connect an audio cable. For details, refer to the manual of each product. An appropriate audio cable to connect between a portable audio player, such as a Network Walkman™ player, Net MD™ player/recorder, or ATRAC CD Walkman player and the stereo system is required to complete this procedure. On the portable player, connect the appropriate end of the audio cable to the HEADPHONE or LINE OUT jack.

NOTE: The type of jack available will depend on the model of your portable player. For model-specific information regarding what type of jack your device has, refer to the operating instructions that were supplied with the product. On the stereo system, connect the audio cable to the LINE IN, AUX IN, or REC IN jack.

NOTES: If necessary, switch the stereo system to the corresponding LINE IN, AUX IN, or REC IN jack that the portable player is connected to. Adjust the volume level on the portable player so that the input signal received by the stereo system is adequate for recording or playback.

If the NFC application is installed in your smartphone, the selection screen may appear when you touch the smartphone to the Sony wireless boombox, Micro HiFi Component system or car stereo. To resolve this issue, select the NFC Easy Connect application and set it to use default. The application will start automatically the next time the NFC function is used.

NOTES: To change the settings of the NFC Easy Connect application, check the instruction manual supplied with the smartphone. The NFC Easy Connect app is not required if you are using Android 4.1 or later operating systems.
