FAQs

The Custom Step Length feature assists with getting the most accurate distance on an activity tracker. Set your custom step length by using Garmin Connect or Garmin Connect Mobile. Setting the Custom Step Length will involve walking or running a known distance and counting the steps it took to complete that distance. The minimum distance is 400 meters. However, it is recommended to go 800 meters. Typically doing this by walking/running on a 400 meter track will provide the most accurate results. To setup using Garmin Connect: 1. Sign into Garmin Connect 2. Select Menu (3 lines in the upper left corner) 3. Select Devices1 4. Select User Settings 5. Toggle Walking or Running button to the right (the button will be green) 6. Enter distance 7. Enter number of steps it took to cover that distance 8. Select Save 9. Sync with Garmin Express The custom step length preference should now be on your device. To setup using Garmin Connect Mobile: 1. Open Garmin Connect Mobile 2. Open the app menu: • Android Touch the menu icon (3 horizontal lines in upper left corner) • iOS – Touch the More icon (bottom right) 3. Touch Garmin Devices 4. Touch the device name 5. Touch User Settings 6. Touch Custom Step Length (Android)/Custom Stride Length (iOS) 7. Toggle Walking or Running button to the right 8. Touch Measured Distance and enter the distance you traveled 9. Sync your device with the application The custom step length preference should now be on your device. If you own more than one device you may need to select it.

Garmin Activity Trackers are designed to track repetitive walking motion as steps. Occasionally certain movements may mimic a similar motion and cause these devices to accumulate a few steps. This could include: Driving a vehicle (usually due to rough terrain) Taking a shower A restless night of sleep Brushing your teeth Your overall daily step trends and goals should not be significantly affected by these extra counted steps.
