FAQs

If you are unable to resolve the issue, then please either call us using the phone number on this page OR click HERE to arrange a return or exchange.

1. Plastic smell produced during initial usage

The first few times you use your air purifier, it may produce a plastic smell.

Do not worry; this is normal and will fully disappear within a few days.

2. The filter is dirty

When your air purifier's filter  is dirty, it might cause a dusty odour.

In this case, please replace the filter.

 3. The filter absorbed gases to its maximum capacity

When the filter absorbs gases to its maximum capacity, it may produce a dusty odour.

We strongly recommend replacing the filter when indicated (please check specific indications for your purifier model in the user manual).

Do not clean, wash or vacuum clean this filter.

4. The pre-filter is dirty

Your Philips air purifier might produce an unpleasant smell when the pre-filter (C in the image above) is dirty.

The pre-filter can (and should) be washed monthly. Please check the user manual to find out how to wash the pre-filter for your specific model (for some purifiers you may need to wash it under the tap and for others you may need to vacuum it).

1. The pre-filter may be clogged

Please make sure the pre-filter is clean. If you need to clean it, you can follow these instructions:

Switch off the appliance and unplug it from the wall outlet.

Pull the bottom part of the panel (the front or the back part of your purifier) to remove it from the appliance

Press the two clips down and pull the pre-filter towards you

Wash the pre-filter under a running tap. If the pre-filter is very dirty, use a soft brush to brush away the dust

Air dry the pre-filter until it is completely dry.

2. The filter packaging is not removed

When the wrapping plastic is not removed from a filter, this might cause an unusual noise. Please make sure there is no plastic wrap left covering the filters.

3. Something is blocking the air inlet or outlet

The air inlet or outlet may be blocked by external objects.

Please check this and make sure the air inlet and outlet are unobstructed.

The filter lifetime counter is not reset

Sometimes, the filter lifetime counter may not automatically reset after replacing your air purifier's filter. To solve this, please follow these steps: 1. Plug in your air purifier 2. Press the Power button 3. Touch and hold the Reset button for three seconds

1. The filter needs to be replaced or cleaned

When a filter needs to be replaced or cleaned (this will depend on the model you own; please check our article about cleaning and replacing the filter), a white indicator light will flash on your Philips Purifier.

Once the filter is cleaned or replaced, please reset the filter lifetime counter (as indicated in the user manual). The indicator light will then stop flashing.

2. There is a malfunction

If an error indicator (E1, E2, E3 or E4) is flashing, this means there is a malfunction in your purifier.

In this case, we advise you to contact us.

1. The air quality sensor is dirty

The air quality sensor needs to be clean and dry for your air purifier to work properly and for the ring to provide the correct indications.

Please clean the air quality sensor with moistened cotton buds and then dry it with dry cotton buds.

2. Polluted air is coming into the room

When polluted air continues entering your room, then the air that has been cleaned by your air purifier will be replaced by new polluted air. Due to this, the air quality ring light in your Philips Air Purifier won't change.

Please check the quality of the air outside the room (you can do this using Air Matters or a similar app). If the quality of the air outside is bad, make sure to close all windows so the air that is purified does not become polluted again.

3. New furniture was added to the room

New furniture can emit gases for several weeks. These gases would be sensed by the air quality sensor and the quality ring light will not change.

The room air quality is very poor

If you are using the appliance in a room in which the ambient air quality is very poor, please open the windows to improve the air circulation.

The room is too big

Your Philips Air Purifier should not be used in a room that is bigger than recommended. If this is the case, then its performance will not be optimal and some odours/smells might not be removed properly.

The recommended room size depends on your specific air purifier model. Find the maximum recommended size for your specific Philips Air Purifier model in the user manual.

1. Packaging material has not been removed

Packaging material needs to be removed from the filters in your Philips Air Purifier. Please remove all packaging materials as shown in the below picture.

2. The filters are not placed correctly

All filters need to be placed in the right order in your air purifier

Please check in the user manual what filters your specific air purifier model contains.

3. The air quality sensor is dirty or wet

The air quality sensor in your Philips Air Purifier should be dry and clean. Please check, and clean it with a cotton bud if necessary.

4. The windows are open

If the windows are open and polluted air continues to come in from outside, your purifier might not be able to improve the air quality.

Make sure that all windows are closed.

5. The room is too big

The room in which you are running the air purifier is larger than the maximum size at which this air cleaner can operate effectively.

Make sure that the size of the room does not exceed the maximum size indicated for your air purifier model.

6. New furniture in the room

When adding new furniture to a room, the air quality might be affected by gases emitted. These gases should disappear gradually within a few weeks.
