FAQs

1. There is no water in the tank

If there is no water in the water tank of your Philips Steam Iron, your iron is not able to generate steam. Please refill the water tank with water. After this, your iron should work again.

2. The iron is not readu to steam

In this case, wait until the orange ‘temperature indicator’ light switches off, then your iron is ready to produce steam.

Note: For the irons with OptimalTemp, the iron ready light will stay on when the iron is ready to produce steam.

3. The steam setting is set to "steam off"

If you have a Philips Steam Iron with a temperature dial, always make sure that the temperature dial is at the 2-dot, 3-dot or the LINEN position. Your Philips Iron does not produce steam when the temperature dial is at the 1-dot position, the SYNTH setting or in Calc-Clean. Tilt your iron up and select the steam setting with the steam slider on top of the handle

If your Philips Steam Iron stopped heating up, there can be several reasons. Please find out here how we can help you.

1. Auto-shut off mode

A light is blinking blue in your Philips Steam Generator Iron:

If your steam generator iron is switched on and the blue power light or the LED light on the handle is blinking but the soleplate stays cold, your steam generator iron might be in auto shut-off mode.

When your iron has not been used for 5 to 10 minutes, it enters in auto shut-off mode. To use it again, please press the on/off button.

The heating up light is flashing in your Philips Steam Iron:

If your steam iron is left unused horizontally for more than 30 seconds, or vertically (heel rest) for more than 8 minutes, it switches off automatically for safety reasons.

When this happens, the heating up light flashes. Move the iron to turn it on and it will start heating.

2. The temperature is not set up correctly

Please make sure to set the temperature to.the desired setting based on the ironable fabric you have.

After 2 to 3 minutes, the soleplate should be hot.

If wrinkles are not easy to remove, the garment may not be moist enough. Wet the garment slightly and adjust the temperature dial up to a hotter position.

3. There is a connection problem

lease check the mains cord, the plug and the wall socket. Make sure everything is properly connected.

4. Incorrect dual voltage setting

If your iron comes with dual voltage setting, make sure this is set according to your location (eg, 120V or 240V).

5. The iron does not switch on anymore

If this is the case, there might be an internal electric problem with your iron.

1. the temperature is set too low

For irons with a temperature dial, please set the temperature according to the fabric that you are ironing.

Note: For some fabrics such as silk, wool, cotton and linen, steam would be needed to remove creases more efficiently.

2. Steam is not used

For steam generators: Press and hold the steam button/trigger below the handle of your Philips Steam Generator continuously to generate steam. When you release the button, your iron will stop steaming.

For steam irons: You can get more steam by using a shot of steam (a boost of steam) to help remove tough wrinkles. Press the steam boost trigger of your iron to increase the steam rate.

If the appliance has no power, try the following:

  • Try an alternative mains plug socket.
  • Try an alternative fuse in the plug.

Allow the iron to reach temperature and stabilise for 1-2 minutes if it has just been plugged in or has just been woken up from auto shut off. Also check you have set the correct heat setting for the garment.

If the iron has no steam or poor steam, check the following:

  • Check that there is enough water in the tank.
  • If your iron has an auto-shut off, check to see if this has activated, wake up the iron and allow it to reach temperature before using steam.

This is normal and is caused by water being pumped through the steam pump. The pump is controlled by the unit automatically to keep the boiler up to pressure.

If the appliance is tripping the electrics, try the following:

  • Try an alternative fuse in the plug.
  • Try an alternative mains plug socket.

Check the laundry care label of your garments to find the correct temperature to correspond with your appliance.
