FAQs

If your new Xbox Wireless Controller wasn’t able to take a firmware update during the console setup process, you’ll need to update the controller manually.

You can connect your controller to a Windows PC by using a USB cable, the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows, or, if your controller has Bluetooth functionality, over Bluetooth. Some PCs also come with Xbox Wireless built in so you can connect a controller directly without an adapter. Make sure your PC has the latest Windows update. If you connect your controller to your device with a USB cable, the Windows device should automatically detect it.

To connect via wireless, press and hold the pair button on your controller until the Xbox button flashes rapidly. Next, select the Start button on your device, and select Settings > Devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > Everything else > Xbox Elite Wireless Controller.

To connect via Bluetooth, press and hold the pair button on your controller until the Xbox button flashes rapidly. Next, select the Start button on your device, and select Settings > Devices and make sure Bluetooth is set to On. Next, select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth > Xbox Elite Wireless Controller.

If the controller won't power on, check the following:

  • Check the batteries and/or provide the controller with a full charge.
  • Connect the controller with the USB cable to see if it operates via this method.
  • Update the controller via the console settings.
  1. Press and hold the Xbox button for 5-10 seconds until the controller turns off.
  2. Wait a few seconds.
  3. Press and hold the Xbox button again to turn the controller back on.
